Pokemon Saves and States

So I started playing pokemon on my ipad and got an interest in emulators. I use GBA.emu for my phone and iPad so game transfer is easy there but I use VBA for my Mac and VBAlink for BootCamp. So i am not sure whether to consider my success that has got me to where I am lucky or not. I dont know or understand excessively how emulators work etc although in my use I have figured out the battery saves are universal to GBA emulators [in pokemon anyway] while save states are generally specific to the emulator. So I wanted to trade my pokemon so in order to not have to redo all the progress I made I transferred my saves and states over to VBAlink and did what I needed to do. My predicament was transferring these files back to my iPad, iPhone, and Mac. Here is my method of "transfer": I would simply open the rom and close it which would, in turn, create a battery save which I could then replace with the desired battery save which had the same name [sometimes having to change the file extension] and then open it up and generally it would work although sometimes I would have to repeat the process a couple times. So my goal in this post is for someone to clarify how exactly I could successfully load a battery save every time. Just looking at VBAlink it has become apparent that you can load a battery save although this option is not available on Mac VBA. I have not tried loading/transfering a battery file to my iPad yet but I just was looking for some clarification regarding capabilities BETWEEN emulators.

Also on a completely unrelated note, does anyone have a battery save with a Feebas? or Totodile? that they could upload for me to trade?

Any help is appreciated!

No$GBA error: Save file is corrupted. Save failed. Please turn power off and reinsert the game card

So I’m trying to play Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin on No$ GBA, well and Desmume, and it’s been really laggy and slow. I used to be able to run all kinds of DS games pretty much flawlessly, but I had to take my computer into a repair shop for something simple, and the moron who works there reformatted my hard drive, so I lost everything I didn’t have backed up, which included all my emulators and roms. I re-downloaded when I first got it back, but obviously all my saved emulator settings are gone. So I was looking around on the internet for settings that would cause No$ to run faster, as I couldn’t seem to find anything other than idiots saying to raise frame rates for Desmume, and I finally found something that was working for No$ last night. It was working perfectly for about an hour, then I opened another window over it to check something and my game froze, and now every time I try to run it I get that error when the game tries to load. It’s in the game screen itself, like Castlevania loads, and then when it tries to load my game it says "Save file is corrupted. Save failed. Please turn power off and reinsert the game card." Anybody have any ideas? I’ve tried a few different things, but I just don’t really know what I’m doing anymore. It’s been too long.

Oh and I already tried to erase that specific save game and start a new one, and I get the same error. It doesn’t even get me into the menus itself. The error pops up first.
I also just tried to delete all the game files except the zipped files, then unzip and try again with the same results. I just deleted that and redownloaded too, also with the same results.

In fact it’s happening with all my games. What the hell did I do?

Nevermind. I figured it out.

Raspberry Pi – I assume emulation is possible but not sure how to do it; please help

So my nephew and I are looking at getting a Raspberry Pi. He’s 9 and not yet a programmer; I’m 34 and a hobbyist programmer. We’ve both used lots of emulation before (I love retro games) and I’m looking forward to the possibility of getting the Pi to run little ROM collections… and maybe even get a hex editor and start hacking ‘em – and teaching my nephew to hack as well.

As I understand the Raspberry Pi: $ 30 computer, minimalist operating system called Raspbian (free software Linux thing), I’ll have to get the hardware separately (monitor, keyboard, trackball), and we’ll get a USB hub for plugging in multiple things. And you swap out entire operating systems by switching SD cards, so it’s kind of like going back to the days when you had to use floppy disks to boot up.

I’ve never used Linux; I grew up using DOS and am used to Windows. So I’ve got some questions about how this will all work out. Especially, I want a head’s-up about any compatibility issues I might not be aware of, and any extra things I’m going to have to mess with to get it all working. So these questions are for anyone who knows the Raspberry Pi, and/or anyone who knows Linux (particularly Debian):

Software-wise:

I assume it’s possible to load up an SD card with an operating system, an emulator or three, and a bunch of ROMs. Is this difficult? The files themselves are tiny (at least, ROMs are tiny and I think emulators aren’t huge… actually, I’m expecting Linux emulators to be smaller than Windows ones), so I don’t anticipate any problems putting a bunch on one SD card. I assume at some point we’ll have a small library of SD cards, including one with my nephew’s favorite ROMs (and everything necessary to run them), another with mine, and a third with educational games, etc. I’d say each ROM card would also have Minecraft, but I’m not sure how much space the world save files will take, so Minecraft might need its own cards.

Secondly, the ability to hack ROMs. I assume I’ll be able to stick a hex editor and maybe one of those ROM graphics viewers on there too. Suggestions for specific software choices? I have a little experience with hacking but not a lot; mostly I’ve messed with the text different characters say, or the names of items etc. I’m going to be careful because, as I understand it, it’s possible to make the kind of mistake that has a ROM go outside its boundaries and start messing up files or even the operating system itself, but I figure this would be easy to recover by just re-ghosting (hope I’m using that term correctly) the SD card. Since ideally the hacking stuff would be on a separate SD card (rather than on the same card as our regular playable ROM collections), there won’t be any lost save files.

And lastly, I assume I’ll be putting programs etc. on the SD card using my Windows computer, then giving the cards to the Pi, rather than using the Pi to download and install programs directly, even though it has ethernet. Any wrong thinking here?

Hardware-wise:

I assume it’s possible to hook up one or more controllers (NES, SNES, or Genesis) through the USB hub. I’ve never hooked up controllers to my computer (except for one guitar controller); is there anything special about the Raspberry Pi that would make this difficult or troublesome?

I… guess that’s it with the questions. Anything else you can advise me with regards to the Raspberry Pi? Thanks for the help!

Ikaruga GameCube Issue.

So the Ikaruga files on here are 144mb, and so i downloaded them, but theyre split apart and compressed, so I tried to uncompress and this last rar file wont extract. So it only uncompressed 200 mbs, and I cant play the game of course, after the title screen, its dead. So I downloaded another file from coolroms, and its over a gig, but I can only get to the halfway or so point of level one and it goes back to the title screen. I have an XP and Im wondering besides that if theres an issue with Ikaruga for Gamecube on Dolphin, Im not having any issues so far with Twilight Princess. And also, why are there two different pages for Ikaruga on here, and which one is best to download from. And how

I should get the file better from the compressed rar files. Honestly, I dont know why they compressed them this way, the PS2 files work great and theyre bigger and only compressed once in one thing.
